Last month, I was challenged by Glenmorangie to bring their whiskies to life using sensory imagery as inspired by their video campaign. Glenmorangie partnered with three artists to create short films based on ASMR, meaning Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. To quote them, they were attempting "to depict the complex tastes of Glenmorangie Original, the elegant spice of Glenmorangie Lasanta and the rich sweetness of Glenmorangie Signet through sounds and imagery alone." ASMR is all about the response of your body (a tingling sensation down your spine) that allows for relaxed concentration and better perception. Glenmorangie wanted to trigger ASMR, so through research found that various elements might bring their Highland surrounds to life, including the earth, stone and wood textures, and sounds of water.

For my work, I was asked to focus on The Original and The Lasanta whiskies. For their films, Glenmorangie had commissioned artists Thomas Traum and Julie Weitz respectively to bring the whiskies to life. For The Original, Traum shows the flavor of citrus through autumn leaves and rich colors. I wanted to bring the flavors of citrus and vanilla out through the use of yellows and autumnal tones. I created the photos while cruising down the Danube River in Austria, surrounded by autumn colors all along the banks of the river in tones of yellow and orange.

For The Lasanta, I wanted to bring out the color and feel of the whisky with the texture of wood and a sense of antiquity. I created a flatlay shot on a vintage desk with props like the old books, camera, and leather watch to set the scene. I wanted to convey the enjoyment of a glass of The Lasanta while planning an adventure.
