Checking In: The Radisson Red in Downtown Portland, Oregon

Over the summer, I had the opportunity to go on an amazing trip to Montana and Minneapolis with my friends at Radisson Rewards. While on the trip, I stayed at my very first Radisson RED property in Minneapolis (which you can read all about here) and got the full Radisson RED experience. A few months later, Radisson Rewards called me up and invited me to come check out their newest Radisson RED hotel, this time in downtown Portland, Oregon.

The brand new Radisson RED Portland Downtown only opened in November, so I’ve been one of the first bloggers to get to check it out. To book a stay, currently using it is only 37,500 Radisson Rewards points a night, which is a really good deal! So the total for a 3-night stay like my trip would only be 112,500 points! If you’re low on points, Radisson Rewards also often offers a Points + Cash option. Because of my Gold status with Radisson Rewards, I also received a free upgrade upon check-in to a beautiful and spacious corner room for the duration of my stay. If you’re not yet a member of Radisson Rewards, I highly recommend heading to their website and signing up before your next stay. Not only can you rack up points for free stays, but you’ll also gain access to members only rates and have the ability to redeem points for other rewards like Priority Pass membership or airline miles with select partners.

If you’re currently looking to book a stay at any Radisson Hotels property in the near future, I’m happy to offer a unique discount just for my followers for an additional 25% off a stay at any Radisson Blu, Radisson, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Park Inn by Radisson or Radisson RED hotel in North or South America now through June 30, 2019. This offer is only available to the first 250 people who book, and you must be a Radisson Rewards member in order to redeem it, so don’t sit on it too long. To book the 25% off promo, head to the Radisson Rewards site and use the unique eCertificate code E100000270.

Also, shoutout to my good friend A Taste of Koko for the photography help and modeling on this trip!

The Location

The Radisson RED is located conveniently in downtown Portland, just around the block from the Portland Art Museum. From there, you’re not too far from the trendy Pearl District and famous shops like Voodoo Doughnuts and Powell’s Books. There’s plenty within walking distance of the hotel, but Portland also has great public transport, including a streetcar system, so it’s easy enough to get around.

The Rooms

I adored the spacious corner room we stayed in for the weekend. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a corner room on the 8th floor, which really enhanced our stay. With the wrap-around windows there was lots of natural light, as well as nice views of Portland, as you can see below.

Just like at the other Radisson RED properties, there was a fun pop art style red accent wall behind the bed, making for a run bit of color to brighten up the room. Everything is very modern, including the flatscreen TV with airplay capabilities (we streamed a lot of Netflix during our stay from our phones) and the funky tiled bathroom. It was also a nice touch to have a table that we were able to work at and dine on (especially convenient for the night we ordered in Thai food from Pok Pok on UberEats), and the hotel has one of these picnic tables in every room, not just the larger ones like ours. All in all, it was a great room both as a home base to explore from, and also to work out of.

The Property

Like at my last stay, there’s an onsite restaurant just off the lobby called the OUIBar + KTCHN. Definitely stop by for happy hour if you can. I was a big fan of the Wasabi Grilled Cheese Sandwich! And on Sundays, they bring in local drag queens for a Recovery Drag Brunch. It’s open to the public, so even if you’re aren’t staying at the hotel, I highly recommend calling up and reserving a table for this. There’s no better way to spend your Sunday afternoon in Portland!

On the second floor, the hotel has a recreational area including games and a bar. Please note that there’s no pool on property, but there is a gym, if you need it. And, just like at their other properties, all of the murals you’ll see around the hotel have been painted by a local artist – a pretty cool trend that sets the Radisson REDs apart. Lastly, pets are welcome, so it’s a great hotel to stay at if you’re looking for something dog-friendly during your travels. You can read up on the hotel’s Pet Friendly policy here!

For anyone looking for a great base to stay at while exploring Portland, I can highly recommend the Radisson RED Portland Downtown. There’s tons of great things to do within walking distance, and the hotel itself has great amenities for a great price. It’s definitely worth checking out for a fun Portland getaway!
